Stained

A rock juts out
of the clear stillness of the pond

A girl drenches
dirty clothes,
scrubs them with soap.
The white lather bubbles
into the dirty meshes
to foam out as
brown dirt.

She squeezes them,
sticky lather trickles
from the capillaries of the cloth
and trails along
staining the dry beauty of the rock.
